All the herbs are safe to use during pregnancy and when you breastfeed. They are also safe to ingest, so no worries if you or the baby get the infusion in your mouth.
Ingredients: calendula, chamomile, lavender, rosemary, uva ursi, yarrow root, comfrey leaf + marshmallow root. 80 gram.
Braïdo Organics Healing Mama Herbal Bath is hand-blended from the highest quality, organically grown herbs without pesticides.
Below we describe the main properties of the herbs used in our Healing Mama Herbal Bath:
Chamomile reduces inflammation, is antibacterial, and calms and soothes the skin. The Latin name for chamomile is derived from the word for womb, Matrix, and is traditionally used by midwives for colic and cramp.
Calendula is anti-inflammatory, effective treatment for painful skin tears and wounds that are slow to heal. Supports skin renewal.
Lavender reduces pain, speeds up wound healing and soothes itching and burning.
Rosemary is antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. Stimulates circulation and increases cellular uptake of oxygen. Uplifting and mood enhancing.
Uva Ursi has antibiotic properties, anti-inflammatory and urinary tract disinfectant.
Yarrow is antibacterial, astringent wound healer.
Comfrey speeds up healing, soothes itchy and painful wounds, softens the skin.
Marshmallow calms inflamed and swollen tissues.
Suggested use: Add 0.5 dl of the herbs to 1.5 liters of boiling water. Turn off the heat and let the herbs steep for 30-60 minutes with the lid on, then strain.
Pour the infusion into the tub. Start with just enough bathwater to cover your yoni, sit in the herb-infused water for 5-10 minutes and then add more bathwater so that you can relax fully and stay warm. If you bring the baby into the bath, make sure the water is not too hot as the baby’s skin is more sensitive than yours.
Pour the infusion into a suitable bottle, such as the Plume Wash peri-bottle that you can find in our webshop, and use it for intimate cleaning after each bathroom visit. Dry off with a clean, dry towel.
Soak a pad, you can use one of our organic wash cloths, in the infusion before birth and put it in a clean plastic bag (make sure you squeeze out all the air) and store in the freezer until after birth. A cold pad might feel good to place on sore and swollen tissue after birth. You can also soak the pad in the warm (not hot) infusion and leave it on your yoni for about 30 minutes at a time. The herbs help to heal your yoni and hemorrojds quicker as well as prevent infection. We recommend using organic pads as they’re kinder to your skin.
The herbs can also be used for vaginal steaming, as the herbal blend cleanses your uterus and softens your tissues and skin – without disturbing the natural environment of the vulva, vagina and uterus. Besides being soothing and healing after birth, it is also said to promote reproductive health in increasing fertility and balancing the female hormones, for instance helping to regulate the menstrual cycle, and ease the pain of period cramps and bloating. Vaginal steaming is also deeply relaxing and can lead to a rise in your overall mental and emotional wellbeing.
Instructions for a vaginal steam:
Pour 2.5 liter of cold fresh water into a medium sized pot.
Place one handful of the herbs in the pot, about 2 table spoons.
Bring water to a soft boil for about 5 minutes.
Turn off the heat, leave the lid on, and steep for another 5 minutes.
Check the temperature of the infusion before using it. It shouldn’t be too hot as you can burn yourself.
Pour the water into the pot or bowl that you have placed on the floor or in your toilet.
Remove your underwear and sit on the toilet seat or squat on the ground above the steaming water. You should be at least about 25-40 cm above the pot or bowl to avoid getting burnt.
Wrap yourself in a large blanket or sheet from your waist down to the floor, making sure no steam escapes.
Keep yourself warm, especially your feet and neck.
Sit for no more than 10-20 minutes.
Enjoy!
Please note: You should not be steaming when: you’re pregnant, your period blood is still red, if you have an outbreak of herpes or yeast infection or if you have just had a surgery. Steaming can temporarily make your period start earlier than usual and increase menstrual flow with more dark fluids or debris.
One package of Healing Mama Herbal Bath is enough for about 6 baths, or 5 baths and 2 bottles, and at least double the amount of steaming sessions.
You can use these herbs an hour after vaginal birth if you are healthy and there are no signs of infection. We recommend taking herbal postpartum baths 1-2 times a day for 3-5 days after birth.
Store the herbs in a dry, cool and dark space.
